The Lead Patient Access Clerk is responsible for overseeing and performing patient access functions across pre-service, time-of-service, and post-service activities to ensure timely, accurate registration and a positive patient experience. This role supports efficient patient flow, accurate insurance processing, and high standards of customer service while helping coordinate daily operations within the Patient Access department.
Key Responsibilities:

Complete pre-service duties including scheduling, pre-registration, insurance verification, initiating precertification's and providing information on the hospital's Financial Assistance Program.

Perform time-of-service functions such as patient registration, insurance validation, financial clearance, and coordinating patient transfers and escorts to appropriate service areas.

Carry out post-service tasks including initiating inpatient authorizations and scanning documentation into patient records.

Provide clear, courteous, and respectful communication to ensure a positive patient experience while protecting patient privacy and confidentiality.
Lead-Specific Responsibilities:

Assist with creating and maintaining registration schedules.

Ensure full departmental coverage, including coverage for callouts and lunch breaks.

Run reports and review patient accounts to verify accuracy of insurance registrations.
This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and a commitment to excellent customer service in a hospital setting.
Qualifications-
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of three (3) years of recent Patient Access experience or similar healthcare registration experience required.

Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.

Working knowledge of insurance verification, precertification, and authorization processes.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Electronic Health Record systems and standard office equipment
