Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Activities Assistant to join our team in providing engaging and meaningful activities for residents in a senior care environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in assisted living, nursing home settings, or long-term care, with a strong focus on enhancing residents' quality of life through recreational and social programs. This role offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of seniors, including those with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other memory impairments. The Activities Assistant will work closely with residents, staff, and families to create a supportive and vibrant community atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities, including social events, games, arts and crafts, music therapy, and outings.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, promoting independence and dignity.
- Manage activity schedules to ensure a balanced and engaging calendar that meets the diverse needs of residents.
- Support residents with memory care needs by implementing specialized programs focused on cognitive stimulation and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and caregivers to identify individual resident preferences and develop personalized activity plans.
- Maintain accurate records of participation and resident feedback to evaluate program effectiveness.
- Foster a warm, inclusive environment that encourages social interaction and emotional support for residents with disabilities or aging issues.
- Assist in counseling residents on aging issues and provide companionship to promote mental health and overall happiness.
Skills
- Experience in event planning, recreational therapy, or senior care environments such as assisted living or nursing homes.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's care, dementia care, memory care, and long-term care best practices.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with seniors, families, and team members.
- Ability to assist residents with ADLs while maintaining respect for their independence.
- Excellent schedule management skills to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
- Compassionate caregiving approach with experience working with people with disabilities or in home & community care settings.
- Background in social work or counseling related to aging issues is advantageous.
- Creative problem-solving skills combined with patience and empathy to support residents' emotional needs. This position offers an enriching environment where your efforts directly enhance the lives of seniors through engaging activities that promote well-being, socialization, and independence.
