- Work with outside consultants on structural designs and geotechnical investigations by defining
scopes of work and reviewing deliverables.
- Utilize Excel, LPILE, and other engineering software to perform preliminary and detailed foundation
design (e.g., driven piles, helical piers, drilled shafts, shallow footings) and evaluate alternative
systems for challenging subsurface conditions.
- Apply advanced mathematical and statistical principles to analyze and design structural elements and
systems.
- Review and interpret geotechnical reports, structural drawings, and supporting data (desktop studies,
NRCS data, geologic maps, nearby site information) to guide design and execution strategies.
- Coordinate with internal teams (Geotechnical, Civil, Electrical, Project Management, Construction,
Development) and external stakeholders (Owner's Engineers, Consultants) on technical requests.
- Assist in the preparation of site geotechnical risk assessments and the development of internal reports
and figures with recommended mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with design teams and development teams to develop risk reduction strategies, evaluate
options, and integrate solutions into project designs.
- Travel occasionally to project sites to observe construction activities, including pile driving, proof
testing, and earthwork, etc.
- Attend on-site meetings and provide technical insights during construction phases
Required Education and/or Work Experience:
B.S. in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Effective time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and LPILE.
Direct experience performing shear and moment calculations for structural steel and related
components.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:
Ability to obtain Professional Engineering (PE) licensure within two years
Direct experience in the design of PV racking and foundation systems.
Advanced degree in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering.
Familiarity with execution of geotechnical investigations and geotechnical report preparation.
Hands-on experience with pile analysis and design, including coordination with Geotechnical
Engineers.
- Strong understanding of the integration of Geotechnical and Structural Engineering disciplines and the
impact of soil modeling on pile and foundation design.
Experience developing and implementing templates, tools, and project-specific design deliverables.
Familiarity with assessing risks related to corrosive environmental conditions affecting structural steel
and concrete elements.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in LPILE and similar structural design and analysis software.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Work is performed in the office and in the field. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift up to 50 pounds.
May be exposed to weather elements when in the field. Limited out-of-town travel is required (estimated travel
~ 5%)
