Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Kennel Assistant to join our team in providing exceptional care for our animals and maintaining a clean, safe environment. This role is vital in supporting the daily operations of our kennel facility, ensuring the well-being of pets and delivering excellent customer service to pet owners. The ideal candidate is compassionate, hardworking, and able to handle physical tasks with care and professionalism.
Duties
- Assist with cleaning and sanitizing kennels, cages, and common areas to maintain hygiene standards
- Feed and water animals according to established schedules and protocols
- Monitor animals for signs of illness or distress and report concerns to veterinary staff or management
- Provide basic grooming assistance such as brushing or bathing under supervision
- Support with loading and unloading supplies, including heavy lifting of bags of pet food, bedding, and cleaning materials
- Interact with pet owners courteously, answering questions and providing updates on their pets' wellbeing
- Help with daily exercise routines by walking or playing with animals as needed
- Maintain organized storage of supplies and ensure the kennel area remains tidy and safe
Skills
- Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with pet owners and visitors
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely, including moving supplies or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds
- Compassionate attitude towards animals and attention to their needs
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Good physical stamina for standing, bending, and lifting throughout shifts
- Basic understanding of animal care practices is a plus but not required; training will be provided
