Job Summary

The Academic Advising Department of Jefferson Community and Technical College has an opening for an Advisor. This position will be split between the Southwest and Downtown Campuses. The primary responsibilities of the position include academic advising, making referrals to appropriate academic and support services, and engagement with college retention and success initiatives.

Job Duties:

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain caseload of first time Jefferson students
  • Providing individual advising for students (in-person and virtual) who are enrolled FYE 105 (First Year Experience course)
  • Assist FYE 105 instructors with teaching Advising topics within designated courses, including but not limited to:

o How to navigate Student Center Accounts and Resources
o Self-enrollment training
o Educating students on program requirements and course applicability

  • Advising students pursuing General Education & Technical Programs
  • Confirming student intended majors and updating as needed.
  • Work closely with other departments to develop processes for student outreach, matriculation and retention efforts.
  • Collaborate with faculty and divisions.
  • Degree Audits for students to aid in Academic and Financial Aid planning
  • Offering group advising sessions as needed
  • Utilizing retention management software for scheduling, adding advising notes, making appropriate referrals, and reporting
  • Participation in committees, work groups, and/or professional development activities
  • Assist with student check-in and triage of services at the Advising Center
  • Assist with the Advising Center email
