DRUG FREE WORKPLACE

Definition & Essential Functions

The position is anticipated to work the following schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, weekday afternoon and evening shifts, and some Saturdays.

Under general supervision, provides customer service, reference help, and imparts basic computer knowledge to library patrons. Shelves and discharges books.

FLSA status: Non-Exempt.

Tasks

General:

  • Does skilled work in circulation, reference, and library programming.
  • Assists with daily operations and administration as needed
  • Receives general instructions from librarians regarding overall duties.

In addition, this position may be asked to:

  • Assist with story times and may perform story times in librarians' absence.
  • Assist with STEAM and other youth-oriented programming.
  • Develop and monitor library programs for all ages and assist with Summer Reading.
  • Perform outreach for all ages.
  • Create fliers, announcements, and other written marketing.
  • Assist the department with Social Media.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to:

Create programs of interest to children, teens, and adults.

Make suggestions to librarians for department improvement.

Assist patrons with new technologies, including mobile phones, tablets and other tasks.

Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with staff as well as supervisors.

Think independently and make decisions easily under pressure.

Physical ability sufficient to operate equipment including computers and telephones; to shelve books on carts daily; and to lift normal library materials.

Visual ability sufficient to read and write reports and to use normal office equipment.

Hearing ability sufficient to understand and hold conversations with others in person and by telephone.

Speaking ability sufficient to communicate effectively with others in person and by telephone.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience working with youth preferred.

Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid AZ driver's license.

Must be able to work AM and/or PM shifts and weekends depending on the needs of the library.

May be assigned by the Director of Parks, Recreation and Library to other departments as needed (special events, etc).
