Pay: $14.00 – $16.00 per hour
Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (40 hours/week)
Job Overview
Northwoods Humane Society – Sawyer County is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and detail-oriented Canine Coordinator to join our animal shelter team. This full-time position plays a critical role in the daily care, health, enrichment, and safety of the dogs in our care.
This is a hands-on animal care position ideal for individuals with a strong work ethic, a calm demeanor, and a passion for animal welfare. The role is physically and emotionally demanding but extremely rewarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain dog kennels following written protocols
- Feed and medicate dogs and maintain accurate feeding schedules
- Rotate dogs for outdoor bathroom breaks and exercise throughout the day
- Assist with dog health evaluations and organize monthly fecal testing
- Maintain detailed animal care records, behavior notes, and medical logs
- Provide enrichment, socialization, and behavior monitoring for dogs
- Bathe and groom dogs as needed
- Perform general shelter cleaning including laundry, dishes, and kennel upkeep
- Supervise and assist adult and junior volunteers
- Provide tours to the public and educate visitors on shelter operations
- Document animal concerns and observations in staff communication logs
- Answer and document incoming calls in appropriate journals
- Use designated animal handling terminology and follow all sanitation procedures
- Maintain accurate timesheets and attendance records
- Assist with animal transport using a personal vehicle when necessary
Qualifications & Requirements
- Dependable, punctual, and reliable with excellent attendance
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Working telephone and willingness to use a personal vehicle if needed
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and safely handle large, strong dogs
- Ability to manage 100+ pound dogs that may be untrained, pull, jump, or mouth
- Calm, patient, and professional under stressful situations
- Compassionate and committed to animal welfare
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-noise animal shelter environment

Work Environment
