Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Surgery Scheduler to join our dynamic healthcare team. Responsibilities

  • Schedule surgeries and procedures accurately within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage, including Medicare and private insurers, ensuring authorization and pre-certification are obtained prior to procedures.
  • Review medical documentation such as care plans, clinical notes, and referral information to confirm surgical eligibility and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Coordinate with physicians, nursing staff, anesthesia teams, and other healthcare professionals to confirm scheduling details and special requirements.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all scheduled surgeries, updates in the EMR systems, CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/ICD-10 diagnosis codes, and billing information.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information during all scheduling activities.
  • Assist with insurance verification processes, including obtaining authorizations and verifying coverage details for surgical procedures.
  • Facilitate smooth front desk activities such as patient check-in/out, appointment confirmations, AR collections, and phone etiquette.
  • Collaborate with billing departments to ensure accurate medical billing and coding for surgical services.

  • Skills

  • Extensive experience with EMR systems
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to surgery, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and Medicare regulations.
  • Proficiency in medical billing processes including insurance verification and documentation review for surgical procedures.
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for reporting and communication purposes.
  • Familiarity with health information management standards including HIPAA compliance.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively serve diverse patient populations.
  • Prior clinic or medical office experience with a focus on surgical scheduling or administrative support preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple schedules simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills with professional phone etiquette and ability to handle sensitive patient interactions confidently.
  • Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining accuracy in documentation review and data entry.

Minimum requirements:

  • Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility: High School diploma or GED. Ability to type 40 wpm, use standard office equipment and be computer literate. Knowledge of medical terminology. Minimum one (1) year experience in computerized appointment scheduling. Two (2) years medical clerical experience preferred. Good communication and language skills required.
  • Eligibility: All employees must be able to provide proof of their identity and their right to work in the United States.

Pay: $ $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
