Who We Are

The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. Who You Are

Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Casual Custodian at the Kahkiyow Keykanow Elders Care Home (KKECH) in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. The ideal candidate for this role is detail‑oriented, adaptable, and ready to take on non‑routine cleaning tasks and special projects as needed. The Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of Elders' living spaces, common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, and all public spaces. The overall appearance of the facility reflects the care and respect held for its occupants, making it essential for the Custodian to approach their work with thoroughness and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in custodial roles with a focus on building maintenance. They should possess the physical stamina to cover large areas, a strong attention to detail, and a solid work ethic.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Ensure elders' rooms are clean and tidy.
• Ensuring spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces.
• Sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets.
• Washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks and restocking disposables.
• Wipe mirrors, windows, and glass.
• Remove garbage and recycle daily and prepare bins for weekly pick-up.
• Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.
• Report major damage and oversee repairs.
• Undertake occasional custodian tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.).
• Make note of cleaning supplies that need to be ordered.
• Change light bulbs.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as custodian, Janitor or in a similar role.
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
• Very good physical condition and strength.
• High school diploma is preferred but not required.

Other Requirements

• Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends and be on-call when required.
• Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
• Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check.
