Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time Stormwater Maintenance Worker (from approximately February 9, 2026 to return of incumbent) to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Stormwater Department. Reporting to the Stormwater Manager, in this unionized position you will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled construction, maintenance, repair and operation of stormwater systems and infrastructure. The successful candidate must have sufficient stamina, strength and coordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions. 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot and perform a variety of construction, maintenance and repair work on storm mains, detention ponds, vaults, culverts, manholes and related stormwater infrastructure
  • Respond to service requests, enquiries, complaints and emergency trouble calls
  • Review stormwater infrastructure drawings, drainage channel classifications and requirements related to provincially regulated streams, watercourses and sensitive habitat
  • Use a variety of equipment and repair processes to locate various utility services and connections
  • Guide equipment operators involved in lowering materials into trenches or trenching work for underground operations
  • Direct semi-skilled and unskilled crew performing work as required
  • Drive a truck to transport tools, equipment, materials and crew to job sites
  • Perform other related work as required
  • Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses plus sound related experience in stormwater construction and maintenance tasks, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, tools and equipment used in stormwater construction, maintenance and repairs
  • Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions and standards applicable to the work
  • Sound knowledge of the departmental functions and rules governing stormwater operations
  • Ability to stay current with advances in stormwater maintenance, repair and construction techniques
  • Ability to direct and oversee the work of one or more crew engaged in stormwater work
  • Skill in the use and care of a wide variety of tools and equipment used in the work
  • Valid Class 1 BC Driver's License is considered an asset
  • Required Certifications/Licenses 
    Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application. 

  • Valid Class 3 BC Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement or equivalent driver's license for where you reside. You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date of this competition. To obtain a copy of your Personal Driving Record, please contact ICBC directly. Please note that a copy of your Driver's License and/or Drivers Factor Report will not be accepted.
  • Valid EOCP Stormwater Collection System Certification
