Job DescriptionGeneral Purpose of Job:
Utilizing high frequency sound waves, provide diagnostic images of a wide variety of exams (abdomen, Ob/Gyn, Vascular, small parts, neurosonography) to diagnose the absence or presence of disease. Responsible for providing patient education and quality patient care.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Analyze disease processes with the use of ultrasound through the selection of appropriate procedures and techniques.
- Coordinate past and present medical history of patient in reference to ultrasound examination.
- Schedule and instruct the patient in reference to ultrasound.
- Review current imaging techniques and interpretations to assure current information.
- Furnish occasional immediate results to appropriate medical personnel derived from ultrasound procedure.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and quality assurance.
- Provide assistance and guidance to sonography students completing clinical experience in department.
- Assist Radiologists and other physicians in the performance of interventional procedures.
- Perform detailed OB ultrasounds on 8-14 patient per day in a timely manner.
- Present cases to reading physician.
- Document appropriately in the US reporting system as well as in the electronic medical record.
- Assist co-workers when needed.
- Restock supplies.
Work Experience
• Minimum of one year working in a PACS environment.
• Minimum of one year ultrasound experience
• Minimum of one year OBGYN experience
Education
• Associates Degree in Sonography.
• Must be certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in abdomen and Ob/Gyn or by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Sonography (ARRT((S).
• OB and general certifications are required.
• Must be CPR certified. Minimum of AHA Heart Saver certification or BLS required.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• Ability to perform requested procedures in a portable environment as needed.
• Ability to perform physical requirements (visual and auditory) of the job.
• Ability to problem solve and multi-task.
• Adept with customer service.
• Ability to effectively communicate with physicians.
• Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
• Comfortable in fast pace environment.
• Must have good communication skills.
• Must be able to work independently.
