Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Work in collaboration with the IPAC manager and Medical Director to assist in developing and leading the IPAC program.
Develop and update IPAC practice guidelines, policies and protocols in accordance with provincial and national guidelines and standards
Assess the professional development of the IPAC team and support infection control practitioners in a mentoring role
Support IPAC leadership on-call
Provide support for surveillance activities and outbreak management; act as expert consultant internally and externally; provide education to all levels of health care providers; select, review and distribute appropriate literature; link with external agencies and academic institutions across the continuum of care; participate in research activities; identify, prioritize and execute performance improvement activities utilizing Lean methodology; provide IPAC recommendations for construction and design projects and product evaluation
Requirements:
Baccalaureate degree in a health care related field or equivalent combination of education and proven expertise in infection prevention and control. Masters degree preferred
Minimum three (3) years of experience in infection control in an acute care setting
Current registration with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology and membership with IPAC Canada required
Professional Membership in the following: IPAC-Canada and IPAC-GTA
Extensive knowledge of current IPAC guidelines and standards and knowledge of the components of an IPAC program
Strong organizational, time management, critical thinking abilities
Excellent leadership skills
Ability to work with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and visitors
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills
Skilled with computer databases including Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel with strong analytical skills
Identify projects and develop strategies to improve existing processes
Self-directed while also possessing the ability to work in a collaborative manner
Proficient in Infection control for healthcare construction and renovation
Knowledge of infection prevention and control policies, procedures, protocols, literature and standards
Excellent work performance and attendance
