The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses.

This position is with the Building Codes Division (BCD). BCD adopts and enforces the statewide building code relating to the construction, reconstruction, alteration and repair of buildings and other structures and the installation of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical devices and equipment.

This is an executive service position and is not represented by a union.

This position is eligible to telework on a part-time basis once the incumbent has gained the proficiency to perform work independently. However, regular, scheduled office hours are also required.

Here's what you will do:

As the Senior Executive Services Coordinator, you will coordinate and provide executive assistance, administrative and technical support to the Administrator and Deputy Administrator of the Building Codes Division.  Duties include:

  • Coordinate with the Division Administrator and Deputy Administrator in the administration of division operational matters

  • Serve as a member of the division's management team and participate in policy planning, review, development, implementation; and project management

  • Assist the Administrator and Deputy Administrator in the administration and coordination of communications internally and externally

  • Represent the Administrator and Deputy Administrator to state agencies, the Governor's Office the legislature, the public, special interest groups and various committees

Here's what you need to qualify:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of staff-level experience providing administrative support to management. The experience must include technical or analytical duties in the management of program goals and objectives; performing program or project planning; preparing, monitoring, or controlling budgets; or performing research and providing analytical information and/or recommendations used in management decision making.

A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or a closely-related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.

Requested Skills:

  • Experience in developing positive and respectful working relationships with agency staff, and diverse stakeholders, including but not limited to: board members, legislative staff, lobbyists, and Governor's office staff

  • Knowledge of the legislative process

  • Experience establishing effective processes and communication procedures to meet objectives and deadlines

  • Experience in reviewing, analyzing and developing policies

  • Experience providing effective direction to peer groups

  • Ability to implement and monitor short and long term agency goals

Additional information:

  • Per the Pay Equity Law passed in 2017, a pay equity analysis will be conducted to determine what pay step the successful candidate will be offered.  The analysis will be based on the relevant experience, education, training, and certifications documented in the application materials.  On average, candidates new to state service will most likely be offered compensation in the lower to mid-level of the salary range.

  • The salary range listed is the non-PERS eligible rate. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible after 6 months of employment, the salary range will increase by 6.95% and the required 6% employee retirement contribution will be deducted from your pay.
