CCI is seeking a highly skilled
Backend Web Developer
with experience supporting
public transit, transportation agencies, or real-time data–driven websites
. The developer will play a key role in the redesign and redevelopment of the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) public website and employee portal. The project involves modernizing the platform, integrating critical transit systems, and developing a stable, scalable backend that supports high-traffic rider-facing tools.

The contractor will work closely with CCI's design, UX, and project management teams to build backend infrastructure, integrations, APIs, content structures, and real-time data functionalities that keep riders informed and SMART staff productive.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop backend systems for SMART's redesigned website and internal portal
• Implement integrations with GTFS / GTFS-RT, service alerts, trip-planning tools, detour systems, Token Transit, ADP, ERP systems, and email/notification platforms
• Configure and optimize the CMS backend (WordPress, Drupal, or equivalent enterprise CMS)
• Build structured content types, permissions, workflows, and reusable backend components
• Develop APIs, endpoints, and middleware to support real-time transit data and dynamic route information
• Ensure backend systems meet
  security, performance, and accessibility standards
• Collaborate with front-end developers, UX designers, and SMART stakeholders
• Support content migration, data mapping, and backend quality assurance
• Assist with hosting configuration, environment setup, and infrastructure planning
• Conduct testing, debugging, and optimization for reliability and speed
• Provide backend documentation, technical diagrams, and knowledge
