Overview
The Retail Store Manager oversees the daily operations of a mission-driven retail store and greenhouse that showcases and sells crafts, ceramics, flowers, and farm goods created by adults on the autism spectrum. This role combines retail management with a strong commitment to inclusive employment practices, ensuring a supportive, empowering, and professional environment where all artists and farmers can succeed.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and supervision to a team of adults on the autism spectrum, serving as their support staff and vocational trainer.
- Model patience, respect, and inclusive communication that fosters confidence and independence among employees.
- Coordinate staff schedules, assign tasks, and ensure all team members have meaningful, clearly defined responsibilities.
Store and Greenhouse Operations
- Oversee all aspects of daily operations, including opening/closing procedures, inventory management, merchandising, and cash handling.
- Maintain a welcoming, organized, clean, and visually appealing retail environment that highlights the creativity and craftsmanship of the artists and farmers.
- Collaborate with the Farm Manager and the Garden Lead for products grown in the greenhouse.
Customer Service & Community Engagement
- Provide excellent customer service and model best practices for staff.
- Educate customers about the mission of Hiram Farm and the store employees and artists and farmers behind the products.
- Participate in special events, such as product launches, seasonal markets, and community festivals.
Sales & Marketing
- Track and analyze sales data to help inform product displays and pricing strategies, and purchasing decisions with members of the Leadership Team
- Collaborate with the Development Director to assist them in promoting store offerings through social media, newsletters, and local partnerships.
- Collaborate with the Program Director for recruitment strategies for staff for the store and greenhouse.
Experience
- Associate's degree in business, education, human services, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in retail management, vocational support, or community-based programs.
- Demonstrated experience or training in working with individuals on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to model professionalism, flexibility, and empathy in a dynamic environment.
- Basic computer and POS system proficiency.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $35,000.00 per year
