JOB DESCRIPTION: SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS
Must have strong communication skills and be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written. Strong attention to detail. Able to follow both oral and written directions. Ability to work tactfully and effectively with team members and patients. Precision in filling medication orders and maintaining records. Must exercise integrity and high confidentiality at all times. Computer Knowledge.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide support to the Pharmacy Manager, while serving patients by preparing medication orders, giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care team and monitoring patient drug therapies. All tasks will be performed in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.
A. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Pharmacist is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:
- Preparing medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, detecting therapeutic Incompatibilities, processing the order in CareTend and proficient in programming pumps.
- Dispense medications, packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
- Controls medication outcomes by monitoring drug therapies and advising interventions.
- Completes pharmacy operational requirements with direct pharmacy technician oversight/supervision ensuring their safety by organizing and directing technician's intake, medication preparation and dispensing work flow by verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, order entries, charges and inspections.
- Provide pharmaceutical information to health care professions by answering their questions and counseling patients on drug therapies.
- Comply with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration (DEA), and the food and drug administration (FDA).
- Maintain records for controlled substances, remove outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory and supervise the work results of support team.
- Maintain current registration with applicable boards of pharmacy and advise Pharmacy Manager of any needed action.
- Maintain pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional Associations.
- Protect patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocol.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, policies, rules and regulations.
- Follows and maintains a file for all operating manuals and manufacturer guidelines
- Complying with FDA mandates and self-imposed manufacturer restriction on particular drugs, as applicable, such as REMS programs and manufacturer limited distribution drug requirements.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks such as delivering patient medication and FedEx deliveries. Perform other duties as assigned.
B. PHYSICAL DUTIES:
- Must be able sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift minimum 20 lbs.
C. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a licensed Pharmacist through the state of Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy. License must be verified that it is current and up to date.
D. EXPERIENCE:
- Pharmacist: 1 year pharmacy experience including prescription filling and verification, records and legal compliance, pharmacy operations, pharmacy software and technology systems and insurance.
Has completed specialized training regarding medication and disease state or has sufficient practical experience that is necessary to provide specialized services offered at location
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $65.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 24 per week
