Essex Golf & Country Club is currently seeking an experienced Sous Chef to support our culinary operations with creativity, precision, and excellence. This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled culinary professional to play a key role in delivering an outstanding dining experience across à la carte, banquet, and event services.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong culinary technique, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and motivate kitchen staff in collaboration with the Executive Chef. A passion for quality, innovation, and consistency in a refined, high-volume environment is essential.

Founded in 1902, Essex Golf & Country Club is a premier private club located in LaSalle, Ontario. The Club features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by the legendary Donald J. Ross. Essex has hosted prestigious tournaments, including the Canadian Open in 1976, the du Maurier Classic in 1998, and the AT&T Canada Senior Open Championship in 2002. Beyond golf, Essex offers members and guests an exceptional blend of dining, aquatics and community in a beautiful setting. Our clubhouse, modeled on an English country house, provides a comfortable traditional ambiance combined with modern facilities. Key Responsibilities

Culinary Excellence & Menu Execution:
Assist the Executive Chef in the development and execution of seasonal menus that highlight creativity, quality ingredients, and exceptional presentation. Ensure recipe consistency, portion control, and adherence to Club standards in all culinary offerings.

Operational Support & Efficiency:
Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations to ensure smooth service, efficient workflow, and timely preparation across à la carte, banquet, and event functions. Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and organization in all kitchen areas.

Leadership & Team Development:
Supervise and motivate kitchen staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning. Provide training, guidance, and feedback to ensure consistent quality and performance.

Inventory & Procurement Assistance:
Support the Executive Chef in managing inventory and ordering, maintaining optimal stock levels, and ensuring the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients. Help monitor food costs and reduce waste through effective planning and portion control.

Compliance & Safety:
Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. Ensure all team members follow proper food handling and workplace safety procedures at all times.

Event & Service Coordination:
Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Food & Beverage team to execute special events, themed dinners, and seasonal promotions, ensuring exceptional quality and seamless service.

Financial Awareness:
Assist in managing food and labour costs, supporting the Club's financial goals by implementing cost-effective practices without compromising quality or guest satisfaction.

Problem Solving & Adaptability:
Address operational issues promptly and effectively, maintaining composure under pressure and ensuring a consistently excellent dining experience for members and guests.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a high-end restaurant, private club, or comparable hospitality environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of food safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Exceptional organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for culinary innovation and a commitment to superior guest experiences.
  • Experience in inventory management, cost control, and budget oversight.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
