Job Overview
The Hinton Friendship Centre is seeking a dedicated Family Diversion program worker to walk alongside families in a respectful, strengths based and culturally grounded way. This role supports families with children and youth aged 7-18 by providing individualized family supports in the home and community facilitating parenting programming (Triple P and Circle of Security parenting programs). The Family Diversion program focuses on strengthening family functioning, building connections to culture, problem solving skills and stress reduction in the home. The program works with families to build on existing strengths to build resiliency and family well-being.
Responsibilities
- Provide culturally safe, relationship based family support in home and community settings
- Support positive parent-child attachment and strengthen family bonds
- Build trusting relationships with families grounded in respect, dignity and kinship
- Work with families with children 7-18 years of age and provide opportunities for growth and development for all members of the family.
- Deliver and support parenting education using evidence based approaches (Triple P, Circle of Security) in a culturally responsive manner
- Support families in strengthening connections to culture, community and traditional supports when desired
- Assist families in accessing formal and informal supports including community services and natural helping networks
- Attend Family Resource Network (FRN) and Interagency meetings, contributing to collaborative community planning
- Develop individualized strength based family plans in partnership with families
- Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and complete required reports in a timely manner
- Support families in building skills that promote self determination, resiliency and long term stability.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Social Sciences, Humanities or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and lived experience.
- Experience working with children, youth and families in community or home visiting settings
- Familiarity with community resources and service programs in Hinton.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures and the impacts of intergenerational trauma with a commitment to culturally safe practice
- Strong communication, relationship building and problem solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, community focused team
- Comfortable working alone with families in their homes and community spaces
- Successful completion of a Criminal record Check and Child Welfare Information System (CWIS) check
- Valid Class 5 driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle and the ability to obtain appropriate insurance for client transportation.
