We are seeking a Coordinator, Consultation and Accommodation for the Fort McKay Métis Nation

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative Coordinator, Consultation and Accommodation to join our team. In this multifaceted role, you will coordinate and participate in a wide range of Industry, Government, and Community projects, with a strong focus on sustainability. You will play an integral part in supporting the Fort McKay Métis Nation Strategic Plan, helping to advance initiatives that reflect our community's values, priorities, and commitment to long-term environmental and cultural stewardship.

The Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Industry Relations, the Coordinator, Consultation and Accommodation is responsible for stakeholder engagement and relations, community engagement initiatives, knowledge keeping and engagement record keeping, among other duties.

Key Responsibilities:

Stakeholder Engagement and Relations

o Participates in Industry, Government and other Stakeholder engagement activities to advance the strategic direction of the FMMN as follows:

  • Attend and participate in industry, government and other relevant stakeholder meetings to advance the interests of FMMN
  • Record meeting proceeding and retain accurate records of actions and commitments for follow-up
  • Develop and facilitate workplans to advance community interests with respect to environmental, social and economic needs
  • Develop scopes of work and budgets to include key technical experts in work as appropriate
  • Track and report on work scopes and budgets

Community Engagement:

o Participates in community engagement activities as follows:

  • Organize community, industry and government meetings
  • Support community member attendance and aid in providing content briefings to ensure meaningful engagement.
  • Record meeting proceedings as directed by the Manager, Industry Relations
  • Where necessary, facilitates community meetings

Knowledge Keeping and Engagement Record Management

o Manage and maintain a repository for:

  • Traditional Knowledge
  • Community-based monitoring outcomes
  • Regulatory submissions
  • Government policies and regulations pertaining to accommodation and environmental regulations
  • Respond to consultation submissions by Industry in the Community Knowledge Keeper in a timely and fulsome manner.

o Establish positive relationships and work with the Community Knowledge Keepers in order that such knowledge is collected, recorded and verified to:

  • Ensure it is preserved
  • Utilize in regulatory documents
  • Support accommodation strategies

Other Duties as Required

  • Support community work and initiatives as needed and where appropriate within your job duties
  • Attend and engage in community events such as Métis Days, Elders Christmas Celebrations, Santa Skate, and Youth Activities, etc.
  • Attend annual strategic planning session as directed
  • Other duties may be required from time to time assigned by your Manager

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Previous relevant experience considered an asset.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community

Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, Métis culture and history, and the Nation's strategic direction
  • Strong communication skills, including clear writing, verbal ability, and sharing technical information with non-technical audiences
  • Facilitation, diplomacy, advocacy, and persuasiveness
  • Ability to understand complex environmental issues with strong attention to detail
  • Commitment to MMSC's mandate and FMMN goals, with flexibility to take on additional tasks as needed

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license and
  • Willingness to travel

Schedule:

o Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm, Fridays 8:30am – 2pm

  • Weekends and evenings as required

Position Type:

  • Permanent, full-time
