The Crematorium Operator will be responsible for overseeing the cremation process, as well as performing general maintenance tasks to ensure the facility remains safe, clean, and functional. This individual must be able to work sensitively with grieving families while maintaining a high level of professionalism and adhering to industry regulations and standards.
Position Full-Time is Friday to Tuesday (5 days).
Responsibilities:
- Operating the crematory equipment, including the cremation chamber and processing equipment, in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Ensuring the proper identification, handling, and storage of human remains at all times, in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Ensuring that all necessary paperwork and permits are completed accurately and filed appropriately.
- Maintaining accurate records of cremation services, including the identification and tracking of remains throughout the process.
- Collaborating with funeral directors, mortuary staff, and families to coordinate the timely and respectful handling of human remains.
- Performing routine maintenance on crematory equipment, ensuring that it remains in proper working order and adhering to all safety standards.
- Inspecting the facility regularly, identifying and addressing any maintenance or repair needs, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC issues.
- Coordinating with outside contractors for specialized maintenance tasks or repairs, as needed.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including the cremation area, storage rooms, and public spaces.
- Ensuring compliance with local and provincial regulations related to cremation services and facility maintenance.
- Providing exceptional customer service to families and funeral service professionals, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification or training in crematory operations, building maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Knowledge of provincial regulations related to cremation services and facility maintenance.
- Proficient in the use of basic hand and power tools, as well as the operation and maintenance of crematory equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize and connect with grieving families and funeral service professionals.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- A valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Availability to work on-call, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- A compassionate and professional demeanor, with a dedication to providing exceptional service in a sensitive environment.
