Electrical Technician

IT International Telecom Inc. is a privately owned subsea network integrator that designs, installs, and maintains subsea telecommunications cable systems. Reporting to the Shop Foreman, IT is seeking a skilled Electrical Technician to join our Halifax operations team to support marine operations with strong electrical expertise to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment by diagnosing electrical faults, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Perform installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including motors, drives, control panels, PLCs, sensors, and instrumentation
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime
  • Test, calibrate, and commission equipment following repairs or upgrades
  • Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and parts usage
  • Collaborate with engineers, operators, and other technicians to improve equipment reliability
  • Assist with equipment upgrades, retrofits, and continuous improvement projects
  • Support emergency repairs and participate in on-call rotation as required
  • Operate the equipment while deployed in the field.

Required Competencies:

  • Technical diploma or trade certification in Electrical, Electromechanical, or Industrial Maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems (AC/DC, motors, VFDs, relays, contactors)
  • Experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent) is an asset
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment (multimeter, megger, oscilloscope)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to perform Lock Out /Tag Out procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Forklift license, rigging training and first aid training are all considered assets
  • Valid passport and the ability to travel internationally; Approximately 3 months of international travel per year is typical.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with business units, corporate departments, key managers, and other stakeholders.
