The Opportunity
McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Electrical and Controls Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate on a diverse number of projects across all sectors such as land development, water / wastewater treatment, municipal, industrial, renewable energy, and data centers. Your primary responsibilities will be to assist in the electrical and controls engineering design, including power distribution, power system studies, life safety and fire alarm systems, building and site lighting, streetlighting and traffic signals, controls and automation systems, and onsite commissioning. This position will report to our Edmonton, AB, branch, however, the selected candidate may work from any McElhanney office across Alberta and British Columbia.

What You'll Do
Prepare detailed electrical and control engineering designs, drawings, specifications and /or study reports for various projects. 
Availability to travel to client site for meetings, assessments, and/or commissioning support services. 
Training and guiding junior engineers and technical staff to assist in the design and drafting work. 
Support your manager and other PMs with: 
business development pursuits and proposal opportunities. 
project progress reporting including budget updates and invoice generation for clients. 
multidisciplinary team coordination and management.
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of 5-8 years of experience in electrical and controls design (power distribution, automation and instrumentation, etc.). 
Registration in good standing as a P.Eng. in Alberta, or eligibility within 12 months. 
Demonstrated knowledge of industrial / utility protection and relay systems (e.g. arc flash studies, settings, commissioning, etc.) preferred. 
Hands‑on design experience with PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems; candidates with deeper controls experience are strongly considered (electrical‑only backgrounds are welcome). 
Working knowledge of the CEC, NBC, NFPA and applicable Canadian and municipal standards. 
Understanding the unpredictable demands of consultant work and the ability to thrive amid changing priorities, manage multiple deadlines, and communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams and clients. 
High productivity, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to design reviews, QA/QC, and field coordination. 
Experience with AutoCAD and Revit considered an asset, with familiarity with ETAP and AGI.  
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
