Job Description: The CNA/Health Professions Instructor is responsible for teaching, managing, and evaluating student learning in the classroom, the skills lab, and the clinical setting. The instructor assists students in achieving the overall goals and objectives of the department while delivering theoretical and clinical instruction in accordance with the Arkansas Office of Long-Term Care and Arkansas Department of Higher Education requirements. The position ensures that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to provide safe and effective patient care in long-term care and acute care settings.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the achievement of the college's mission and goals through effective classroom, lab, and clinical instruction.
  • Conducts classroom lectures, skills labs, and supervised clinical experiences for CNA students.
  • Evaluates student performance through testing, skill demonstrations, clinical observation, and competency checklists.
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, performance, and progression in the program.
  • Exhibits behavior that supports and promotes students' rights.
  • Provides academic support, guidance, and mentorship to students, including remediation for those struggling to meet course objectives.
  • Creates and maintains an environment of rapport, respect, and inclusivity.
  • Participate in program development, faculty meetings, and continuing education activities to maintain and enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Provides students with timely written and oral feedback.
  • Communicates ongoing feedback to lead faculty regarding individual and group performance in achieving course outcomes.
  • Engage in the college community for inter-professional networking and professional development.
  • Communicates learning expectations and incorporates current technology into instruction.
  • Stays current with state and federal regulations, healthcare trends, and teaching methodologies.
  • Structures course activities and assignments based on learning outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the field and effective teaching techniques.
  • Ability to develop lesson plans and design learning activities to achieve student learning outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate learning expectations clearly through structured activities and assignments.
  • Competence in instructing, engaging students, and assessing student learning.
  • Familiarity with the college resources available to support instruction and student services, including instructional technology.
  • Ability to teach medical terminology, disease processes, and basic nutrition if needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate with an unencumbered nursing license
  • At least 2 years of field experience, preferably in long-term care or acute care settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience in healthcare or health profession programs.
  • Knowledge of Arkansas CNA training regulations and the Arkansas Office of Long-Term Care requirements.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach diverse student populations in a college setting.
  • Valid Arkansas driver's license (if clinical sites require travel).

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Note: Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these requirements (except for certification or licensure) upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.
