Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our reputable dental practice. The ideal candidate will support the clinical team by providing exceptional chairside assistance, ensuring infection control, and maintaining accurate medical documentation. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about dental health and patient care, with a focus on pediatric and general dentistry. Prior experience with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is preferred, along with a solid understanding of dental terminology and procedures. The position requires adherence to HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
Duties
- Assist the dentist during various procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric treatments
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, maintaining aseptic techniques
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans when applicable
- Record vital signs and medical histories of patients prior to procedures
- Operate dental imaging equipment and ensure proper handling of medical imaging documentation
- Manage patient flow efficiently as a dental receptionist when needed, including scheduling appointments and updating medical records in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix
- Maintain infection control standards by sterilizing instruments and disinfecting treatment areas
- Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care
- Support four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency during procedures
- Assist in medical coding and documentation for insurance claims and medical records management
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; experience with medical coding is a plus
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security
- Experience in pediatric dentistry is desirable, along with familiarity with pediatric-specific procedures
- Ability to operate X-ray machines safely and accurately; certification in radiography preferred
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry
- Skilled in chairside assisting, including handling dental instruments efficiently during procedures
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control protocols to prevent cross-contamination
- Familiarity with 3D scanners, digital imaging, and other advanced dental technology is advantageous
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
