Job Summary
We are seeking a vibrant and compassionate Recreation Aide to join our team dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Duties
- Plan, coordinate, and lead a variety of recreational activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities, including arts and crafts, games, music sessions, outings, and special events.
- Assist residents with participation in activities, ensuring they feel comfortable and included while respecting individual preferences and limitations.
- Support residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as mobility assistance, dressing, grooming, and other personal care tasks as needed.
- Foster a positive social environment by encouraging interaction among residents and facilitating group activities that promote camaraderie.
- Maintain detailed records of activities conducted, resident participation levels, and any observations related to residents' well-being or changes in condition.
- Collaborate with nursing staff, social workers, and family members to develop personalized activity plans that support residents' cognitive health—especially those with Alzheimer's or dementia.
- Assist in organizing special events or themed celebrations that enhance community spirit and resident engagement.
- Manage activity schedules efficiently to ensure timely execution of planned programs while adapting to changing resident needs or circumstances.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to residents during activities, promoting a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Skills
- Proven experience in event planning or coordinating recreational activities within assisted living facilities or nursing homes.
- Knowledge of senior care principles, including Alzheimer's care, memory care, dementia care, and long-term care practices.
- Familiarity with recreational therapy techniques aimed at improving mental health and physical activity for older adults or individuals with disabilities.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage residents of diverse backgrounds and abilities while working collaboratively with team members.
- Ability to assist residents with ADLs compassionately and professionally while maintaining dignity and independence whenever possible.
- Excellent schedule management skills to prioritize activities efficiently throughout each day.
- Experience working with people facing aging issues or chronic health conditions such as dementia or cognitive decline.
- Compassionate caregiving attitude combined with patience, empathy, and active listening skills.
- Knowledge of home & community care environments along with experience in social work or counseling related to aging issues is a plus.
