Summary:

The Trauma Registrar works under the supervision of the Trauma Program Coordinator and the Trauma Medical Director. The registrar is responsible for the collection, entry, maintenance, and reporting of data for the Trauma Center as required by appropriate regulatory agencies. Utilizing analytical, cognitive, and leadership skills, the registrar will retrieve, organize, disseminate, and analyze the collected trauma data for injury research, epidemiology studies, prevention initiatives, patient safety, and performance improvement. The original data shall be obtained from Emergency Department records, electronic medical records, and patient interviews. The registrar will code and enter data into the computerized trauma registry, maintaining confidentiality at all times. High-quality studies begin with the entry of high-quality data. The trauma registrar is responsible to perform this task.

Responsibilities:

1. Collects and enters data into the trauma registry regarding trauma patients at the Level I and Level II Trauma Centers in a timely manner.2. Collaborates with Information Technology on computer hardware and software maintenance and backup to assure proper registry function.3. Assigns and scores all injuries utilizing the most current AIS and ICD scoring systems. Completes and verifies all data for accuracy.4. Evaluates the documentation of nursing staff/hospital providers and identifies missing data elements. Coordinates with nursing administration to correct and obtain the information on the hospital record. Reconciles the data as the information becomes available.5. Ensures compliance with National Trauma Data
