General Summary: An Electrician I (or Level 1 Electrical Mechanic) has a minimum of 4-years of relevant experience in the commercial or industrial electrical field. Level 1 Electrical Mechanics report to a Foreman or person designated by the Foreman to perform assigned functions in accordance with Watson Electrical's policies and procedures. Work will consist of installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, equipment and associated materials within the electrical construction industry.

Preferred Job Skills: Basic math skills, dependable transportation and willingness to commute daily to job sites within a 50-mile radius. Must possess effective communication skills. Commercial electrical construction experience including EMT & GRC conduit installation and MC cable experience. Ability to install switch gear, panel and terminate.

Mandatory Hiring Requirements: Resume, References, Background Check, Drug Screen Testing, Valid State Driver's License. A Journeyman License preferred but not required.

Responsibilities: Must be able to work within precise limits and standards of accuracy and perform a variety of duties that often change. Must utilize reason and logic to perform mathematical operations rapidly and accurately and possess a complete understanding of construction drawings and details. Recognize slight differences in planes, shapes or shading to envision 2-dimensional pictures and diagrams as 3-dimensional objects.

  • Direct and work with an Electrician Helper as directed by Supervisor or designated person.
  • Accurately install conduit, wire, pre-fab assemblies, panel boards, light fixtures, devices, and other equipment per layout by the Supervisor or designated person.
  • Minimize waste of materials, assure quality of the installation (no re-dos), and be consistent with Supervisors or designated person layout of task(s).
  • Follow diagrams and blueprints to ensure that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring are installed.
  • Measure, cut, thread, ream, assemble, and install conduit, using such tools as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender(s).
  • Pulling wire; splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or other means, twisting wires together, and applying terminal connectors and or tape.
  • Connect wiring to light fixtures, power equipment, motors, devices, and other electrical apparatus, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Test continuity of circuits, circuit wiring to insure compatibility and safety of components using test instruments.
  • Observe functions of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • May repair faulty equipment or systems
  • Complete required paperwork.
  • Monitor safety per Watson Safety Program.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate efficient knowledge of trade.
  • Coordinate installation with other trades.
  • Responsible for getting materials and proper tools together to complete assigned task.
  • Assist Supervisor or designated person to trouble- shoot electrical branch circuits and feeders

Position Requirements:

License: Possessing a current state driver's license is preferred but not required.

Certifications: Applicable federal, state, and local certifications as required by job conditions or by the company.

Education: High School Graduate or GED.

Experience: A Minimum of 4-years electrical experience required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, or snow.
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
  • Job requires employee to have required personal tools with him at all times (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.).
  • Work from all types of ladders and be able to transport/relocate ladders unassisted.
  • Employee's personal weight with tools cannot exceed the rated weight capacity of ladders used.
  • Perform work at various heights, up to 90" from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks and other safe work areas.
  • Work in restricted areas (switch gear-room, manholes, utility tunnels and crawl spaces).
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required in company's Safety Handbook.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week plus overtime as required, to include night shifts and out-of-town work if required.

Skills:

  • Positively identify colors of wire and other items as required.

  • Comprehend reading of blueprints drawings, and schematics same.

  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.

  • Must have the ability to use safely the required power tools.

  • Must be able to safely operate equipment (trenchers, lift trucks, aerial lifts, etc.).

  • Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.

  • Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in Company Safety Handbook.

  • Operate two handed tools as required.

  • Operate company truck with manual and automatic transmission.

  • Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, work site directions, and written instructions.

  • Operate and work from mechanical personal lifts (electric or gas powered).

  • Assist Supervisor or designated person with energized circuits and equipment as outlined in the Company Safety Policy Manual.

  • Effectively supervise electrical helpers to complete tasks assigned by a Supervisor safely and accurately.

Physical Function:

  • Must hear and see well (either natural or with correction).
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
  • Able to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Tolerant to prolonged standing and movement on foot.
  • Climb ladders (all types).
  • Complete overhead work for extended periods of time.
  • Responsible for securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
