POSITION DETAILS: Full-time non-exempt, with the ability to work evenings, weekends, overnights and overtime as required.

Arcata House Partnership (AHP) is Humboldt County's largest and only Nonprofit homeless services provider that offers the full continuum of care to individuals and families who are experiencing housing and/or food insecurity. We are a state and federally funded agency that serves the homeless community with compassion, dignity, and empowerment.

All AHP staff play an essential role in working with program participants to build individual capacity and to remove barriers to getting and staying housed as they move toward fully independent living.

Each staff member must be a self-starter who is comfortable among the homeless population and is willing and able to work with those who have physical disabilities, moderate to severe mental illness, and/or acute substance dependence. Although assigned a primary role, each employee may be reassigned as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all participants, including responsible handling and safeguarding of client data and client files;
  • Ensure the safety and security of self, employees, clients/participants and facilities;
  • Respond to client/participant questions/needs;
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation of actions, interactions and services provided (e.g., shift logs, progress notes, etc.);
  • Will be required to work alone and with participants;
  • Deescalate situations;
  • Enforce program rules;
  • Ensure food safety, universal precautions, and COVID safety precautions are observed at all times;
  • Ensure facilities and work area remain safe, clean and sanitary;
  • Support participants in keeping individual areas/rooms are safe and clean;
  • Conduct program, site and/or room inspections;
  • Teach and model activities of daily living including how to be a good neighbor, how to clean and how to maintain good health, hygiene, and nutrition;
  • Support clients in learning job skills, employment searches and applications and other pre-housing needs;
  • Provide clients with support in obtaining supportive services e.g., mental, dental, preventative and primary care;
  • Conduct or support service needs assessments and referrals;
  • Provide transportation (in AHP supplied vehicles only) to clients to obtain the above services and benefits; Accompany participants to appointments;
  • Attend regular training and staff meetings; and
  • Specific duties as included in addendums;
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire to be part of a close working team with common goals and have a positive attitude;
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure;
  • Understand and maintain client confidentiality;
  • Ability to physically lift 25 pounds;
  • Valid CA driver's license and acceptable driving record;
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions in English;
  • Satisfactory criminal records check; and
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Moderate computer skills;
  • Maintain accurate and systemic records;
  • Current food handler certification completed at the time of hire if not before;
  • Ability to prioritize and self-direct;
  • Crisis management and de-escalation;
  • Ability to work calmly and patiently with people who have mental illness, as well as physical and/or learning disabilities; and
  • Ability to adapt to new and challenging situations.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Education and/or experience working with homeless, food insecure and at-risk populations
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care and harm reduction;
  • Knowledge of and compliance with mandatory reporting laws;
  • Experience working with the homeless;
  • General knowledge of local service providers; and
  • General knowledge of social work practices and record-keeping.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • The noise level is low to high and may have frequent interruptions;
  • There may be activity from other employees and clients of a distracting nature; and
  • Work may be performed in a congregant living environment with exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt or dust.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to detect alarms, sirens, emergency alerts and disturbances;
  • Work at a desk and computer;
  • Able to operate a vehicle safely;
  • Ability to recognize and respond to dangerous situations;
  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of materials; and
  • Standing, walking, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, bending over at the waist, grasping, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling and moving, lifting and/or carrying up to 25 pounds to waist height.
