Job Summary

B&A is seeking a Software Engineering SME (Engineer IV) to support a federal government client on a mission-critical program. This senior role leads the design, development, and integration of complex hardware and software systems, providing technical leadership and driving engineering strategy. The ideal candidate excels in cross-functional collaboration, demonstrates strong engineering judgment, and delivers secure, high-performance solutions 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and integration of complex hardware/software systems in mission-critical environments.
  • Architect end-to-end solutions that ensure system resilience, performance, and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Apply DevOps methodologies to optimize CI/CD pipelines and implement infrastructure automation.
  • Develop and maintain software in high-level languages such as Java, Python, Go, or C++.
  • Perform advanced data analysis, modeling, and performance optimization using tools like MATLAB, R, or Python.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, systems engineers, and cybersecurity professionals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support technical reviews, documentation, and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Align engineering solutions and system architectures with mission and organizational objectives.

Education and Experience

  • Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited program OR
  • MS in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, or Machine Learning.
  • 7+ years of professional experience as an electrical, computer, software engineer or computer/data/information scientist.
  • Experience working with hardware/software systems in environments such as NCS, ICS, or warehouse automation.
  • Hands-on background in cybersecurity systems, DevOps, or machine learning.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software in at least one high-level language (Java, Python, Go, C++).
  • Preferred experience with MATLAB, R, or Python for modeling and analytics.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in software engineering and complex system integration.
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, Go, or C++ for software development.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and compliance frameworks.
  • Practical experience with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
  • Ability to perform advanced analytics and modeling (MATLAB, R, Python preferred).
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and advanced engineering judgment.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in environments such as NCS, ICS, warehouse automation, or other large-scale hardware/software systems.
  • Background in machine learning, AI, or data science methodologies.
  • Familiarity with predictive analytics and optimization algorithms.
  • Experience mentoring engineering teams and supporting technical governance processes.
  • Additional programming experience in analytical or modeling languages.

Security Clearance

  • Active Secret clearance.

Certifications:

  • One of the following DOD IAT-Level III Certifications: CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, or GCIH.
