We are looking for an experienced Critical Environment Technician to support operations in a high-reliability data center environment. This role is designed for a technician with strong mechanical and electrical discipline who understands the demands of mission-critical facilities and the importance of maintaining continuous uptime.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with data center infrastructure systems, is comfortable following strict procedures, and can work independently while maintaining a high level of technical accuracy.
About the Role
This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the equipment that supports data center operations, including cooling systems, electrical distribution, backup power systems, and building infrastructure. You will work in a critical environment where equipment failures can directly impact customer operations, so attention to detail and a strong reliability mindset are essential.
Key ResponsibilitiesData Center Systems and Critical Infrastructure
- Operate, maintain, and repair CRAC units (Liebert or similar), HVAC equipment, and associated mechanical systems.
- Support the operation of UPS systems, generators, switchgear, PDUs, STSs, and other electrical distribution equipment.
- Follow critical environment procedures, including MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs.
- Perform preventive maintenance and respond to corrective work orders for all data center mechanical and electrical systems.
- Monitor and operate building automation systems, electrical monitoring platforms, and fire/life safety systems.
- Conduct routine inspections of data halls, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, and support spaces.
- Identify system abnormalities, document findings, and escalate issues as needed to protect uptime.
Reliability, Safety, and Compliance
- Complete hazard assessments and ensure work is performed under established safety guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with local codes, regulations, and site-specific procedures.
- Keep work areas clean and organized and demonstrate strong housekeeping practices.
- Participate in required safety training and implement best practices to minimize risk.
Administrative and Operational Support
- Update work orders, logs, and documentation in real time using the CMMS (e.g., Corrigo).
- Submit P-card expenses and receipts daily.
- Perform vehicle safety inspections when applicable.
- Attend required team and safety meetings.
- Support additional operational duties as assigned.
Work Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.
- Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and overhead work.
- Ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet while carrying tools.
- Work in hot, cold, or otherwise demanding environments.
- Ability to drive for extended periods if needed.
- Availability for call-ins and emergency response.
Required Experience and Skills
- 10+ years of technical experience in building engineering or critical facility operations.
- Experience working in data centers or raised floor environments.
- Strong background in HVAC, CRAC systems, electrical distribution, generators, UPS equipment, and switchgear.
- Universal EPA 608 Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
- Knowledge of system interdependencies and the impact of failures in a critical environment.
- Licenses required by local jurisdiction (HVAC, electrical, boiler, etc. as applicable).
- Ability to use standard computer applications such as Word and Excel.
- Completion of trade school or a documented apprenticeship in HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, or related craft.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $ $38.00 per hour
