We are seeking a certified and experienced Forklift Operator to join our logistics team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of forklifts and other powered industrial trucks to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise. You will be instrumental in receiving and shipping operations, ensuring inventory is handled correctly and safely. This position requires precision, a strong understanding of warehouse safety protocols, and the ability to navigate a busy warehouse environment. Daily pre-operation checks of forklift equipment are mandatory to ensure optimal safety and performance. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of movements and assisting with inventory control. Adherence to all company safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), is non-negotiable. Candidates must possess a valid forklift certification and a proven track record of safe operation. This role is essential to the smooth functioning of our logistics and distribution operations.
Responsibilities:
- Operate forklifts (e.g., sit-down, stand-up, reach trucks) in a safe and efficient manner.
- Load and unload palletized freight from trailers and containers.
- Transport materials to and from storage areas, production areas, and shipping/receiving docks.
- Stack and unstack merchandise at appropriate heights.
- Perform daily pre-operation checks on forklifts and report any issues immediately.
- Assist with inventory counts and help maintain inventory accuracy.
- Follow all safety guidelines and regulations, including proper lifting techniques and the use of PPE.
- Identify and report any potential hazards or unsafe conditions in the warehouse.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Work collaboratively with other warehouse staff to ensure efficient workflow.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid forklift operator certification (specify type if needed, e.g., OSHA compliant).
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating forklifts in a warehouse setting.
- Proven ability to safely lift and move heavy objects.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse operations and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) is a plus.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and using required PPE.
- Understanding of logistics and supply chain operations.
