Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, aging needs, or health challenges. This role involves assisting residents with daily activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting independence within a supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to person-centered care and possess relevant experience in home and community care settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support.
  • Provide medication administration and monitor vital signs in accordance with care plans.
  • Support residents with meal preparation, feeding, and nutritional needs.
  • Implement individualized care plans tailored to each resident's specific needs, including dementia or Alzheimer's care.
  • Observe and document resident behavior, health status, and progress while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Operate patient monitoring equipment such as Hoyer lifts, wheelchairs, or other assistive devices safely.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks as needed.
  • Assist with transportation to medical appointments or community activities.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies using CPR and First Aid procedures when necessary.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and team members to ensure comprehensive care delivery.

Skills

  • Proven experience in group home settings, assisted living, or long-term care environments.
  • Knowledge of patient observation techniques and dementia or Alzheimer's care best practices.
  • Ability to assist with ADLs, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring accurately.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills for working effectively with residents, families, and team members.
  • Compassionate caregiving approach with patience and empathy for individuals with disabilities or aging-related conditions.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when required (e.g., Hoyer lifts).
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities or autism is preferred.
  • Knowledge of home health practices including hospice care, nursing home experience, or social work background is advantageous.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts in a caring environment dedicated to improving residents' quality of life.
