In this pivotal role, you will lead the technical development of Docker's flagship product, the MCP Gateway, which is instrumental in creating secure, developer-friendly AI infrastructure. Your primary focus will be on designing and implementing scalable, secure backend systems that facilitate the connection, observation, and security of AI agents and tools across their lifecycle—from initial prototype to full-scale deployment. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Security to develop innovative frameworks and APIs that enhance developer experience and ensure security standards are met. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of AI infrastructure, working in a fast-paced environment that values ownership, innovation, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in backend engineering with production-grade systems
  • Strong product mindset with enthusiasm for building developer-facing tools
  • Expertise in software engineering best practices, including code review, source control, CI/CD, and testing
  • Deep knowledge of distributed, highly scalable systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and API design
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages, primarily Go
  • Ownership mentality with a bias for shipping, learning, and iterating
  • Experience working autonomously across distributed, remote teams
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Bonus: Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, microservices architecture, and LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) or MCP specification

Responsibilities

  • Define and architect the technical solutions for new products related to AI tools and security
  • Collaborate with Product and Design teams to shape product features and functionalities
  • Mentor and guide other engineering team members to foster growth and best practices
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for the team, ensuring clear communication and project alignment
  • Participate in the full product lifecycle from conception to deployment and iteration
  • Engage in code reviews, testing, and documentation to maintain high-quality standards
  • Contribute to the development of secure, high-throughput backend services that support AI infrastructure

Benefits

  • Flexible work environment with the freedom to design your work schedule
  • Designated quarterly Whaleness Days for focused innovation and rest
  • Home office setup support for a comfortable remote working experience
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave to support family growth
  • Technology stipend of $100 net per month to enhance your work setup
  • Generous PTO policy encouraging work-life balance
  • Quarterly company-wide hackathons to foster creativity and team bonding
  • Training stipends for conferences, courses, and professional development
  • Equity participation to share in the company's growth and success
  • Company swag and other perks to promote team spirit
  • Comprehensive medical benefits, retirement plans, and holidays (varies by country)
