Job Summary
Shift - Graveyard full time - some weekends may be needed - rotating schedule.
The Caregiver (or Resident Assistant) is responsible for providing compassionate and hands-on assistance with the daily living activities, personal care, and general well-being of residents in a Assisted Living/Memory Care community. This role requires patience, empathy, and a commitment to maintaining the dignity and independence of all residents.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Personal Care and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
Assist residents with bathing, showering, and personal hygiene (e.g., shaving, oral care, hair care).
- Provide assistance with dressing and undressing while promoting independence.
- Assist residents with toileting and incontinence care, ensuring dignity and cleanliness.
Assist residents with mobility and transfers (e.g., moving from bed to chair, walking), using proper body mechanics and assistive devices (e.g., walkers, wheelchairs, lifts).
Health and Wellness Support
Medication reminders or assistance with self-administration, as permitted by state regulations and facility policy.
- Monitor and report changes in a resident's physical condition, behavior, or mental status to the supervising nurse or management promptly.
- Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) as required.
Follow individual Resident Care Plans accurately and completely.
Nutrition and Meal Support
Assist with meal service, including setting up the dining area and helping residents to their seats.
- Provide feeding assistance to residents who require it.
- Ensure residents have access to fluids and encourage hydration throughout the shift.
Assist with clearing dishes and light dining room cleanup.
Emotional Support and Companionship
Provide emotional support and companionship by engaging residents in conversation and meaningful activities.
- Encourage participation in facility social and recreational programs.
- Respond to call lights promptly and courteously.
Foster a caring, supportive, and respectful environment for all residents.
Safety and Environmental
Perform light housekeeping duties within resident apartments/rooms (e.g., making beds, tidying up).
- Assist with laundry as needed.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment to prevent falls and hazards.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Qualifications and Skills
Required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Demonstrated ability to be compassionate, patient, and empathetic.
Preferred
- Previous experience as a Caregiver, Resident Assistant, or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in an assisted living, memory care, or long-term care setting.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of standard safety and infection control procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and twist for extended periods.
