*Company:* Core Systems (Rugged Systems Inc.)
*Location:* Poway / San Diego, CA (on-site; limited hybrid possible for the right candidate)
*Type:* Full-time | Senior level | Hands-on execution role
THE ROLE (NO “POWERPOINT PM” — THIS IS HANDS-ON)
Core Systems is looking for a *Senior Program Manager* to run *U.S. Government and Prime Contractor programs (Lockheed Martin and others)* from *capture handoff through delivery and closeout*. You will own the program end-to-end: *scope, schedule, cost, risk, compliance, and customer communication*—and you will be expected to be *in the factory and with the engineering/ops teams driving execution*.
This role requires deep experience with *DoD-style program cadence and contract flowdowns*, including *PDRs, EDRLs/CDRLs, SOW/Spec compliance, DD250/acceptance, change control, and subcontract/vendor management* in a *manufacturing + integration environment*.
WHAT YOU’LL DO (KEY RESPONSIBILITIES)
* *Own programs start-to-finish*: kickoff, IMS buildout, weekly execution rhythm, risk/issue management, delivery, and closeout.
* *Drive contract compliance*: interpret and execute *SOW, CDRLs/EDRLs, specs, quality clauses, packaging/marking, reporting cadence, and flowdowns* to internal teams and suppliers.
* Lead major program events and artifacts including *PDR/engineering reviews*, action item closure, and documentation control.
* Manage *customer interface* (Prime + Gov stakeholders): status, issues, schedule recovery, change requests, and negotiation support.
* Run *cross-functional execution* with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Quality, Test, and Shipping to ensure deliverables ship *on time and compliant*.
* Own *cost/schedule performance*: forecasting, margin protection, program baselines, and change management (ECPs, scope changes, ROMs).
* Coordinate compliance and audit support as needed (e.g., *DCMA/DCAA interactions*, quality surveillance, source inspections).
* Ensure program readiness: *long-lead procurement*, vendor performance, configuration control, FAT/SAT planning (as applicable), and shipment/acceptance requirements.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE (REQUIRED)
* *8–12+ years* program management experience supporting *DoD / Federal / Prime Contractor programs*, ideally in *manufacturing, integration, rugged hardware, electronics, or systems*.
* Proven experience managing *PDR and structured engineering review cycles*, and successfully delivering contract hardware on schedule.
* Strong working knowledge of:
* *CDRLs/EDRLs, flowdowns, SOW compliance, and contract deliverables*
* *FAR/DFARS fundamentals* (enough to execute and flag risk, not just “heard of it”)
* *Configuration/document control* (deliverable quality, traceability, revisions)
* Highly operational, able to *walk the floor*, solve problems with leads, and push execution daily.
* Strong command of program tools: *MS Project (or equivalent), Excel, risk registers, action item trackers, schedule recovery plans*.
* Excellent written communication: can write clean, professional *customer updates, variance explanations, and deliverable narratives*.
* *U.S. Person* status (due to export-controlled work).
NICE TO HAVE (PREFERRED)
* Experience supporting *Lockheed Martin / major primes*, and understanding how they run compliance, reporting, and supplier management.
* Familiarity with *DCMA/DCAA expectations*, source inspection, QMS environments, and production readiness reviews.
* Exposure to *ITAR/EAR, NIST 800-171 / CMMC concepts*, and secure program handling requirements.
* Background in rugged computing, embedded systems, servers, networking, VPX, displays, or MIL-STD style environments.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE (90–180 DAYS)
* You establish a predictable cadence: *kickoff → IMS → weekly execution rhythm → risk control → on-time deliverables*.
* You cleanly control deliverables: *EDRL/CDRL tracking, due dates, approvals, and zero surprises*.
* You reduce fire drills by tightening *flowdowns, internal ownership, and supplier coordination*.
* Customers trust your updates because they’re accurate, brief, and actionable.
