We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be working in our Distribution and connections team. As one of the largest Independent Connection Providers (ICP’s) in the UK, we support distribution network operations across infrastructure. Our team installs and maintains distribution networks and ensures reliable connections for customers. carrying out electrical planned work, customer connections and network reinforcement.

Ready to take charge of high-voltage design and lead a talented team? We’re on the look out for a Senior Design Engineer to steer the design process for UKPN substation projects. You’ll be the go-to expert, ensuring everything runs smoothly, meets the mark, and gets delivered on point. If you thrive on leading teams, solving tough challenges, and working closely with others to make big things happen – then this could be the role for you!
What you’ll be doing?
Support design engineers as a senior member of the team – coordinating tasks, mentoring and leading by example with high performance.
Owning the electrical design process for substations, from single-line diagrams to HV cabling layouts.
Reviewing and approving technical calculations like fault analysis and protection coordination.
Making sure designs hit the mark on UKPN standards, BS EN, IEC regs, and all the other important acronyms.
Acting as the main point of contact for clients and internal teams on all things design.
Working closely with project managers, commercial teams, and site crews to keep delivery smooth.
Coordinating with civil, mechanical, and commissioning teams to ensure design harmony.
Supporting tenders, procurement, and value engineering with your technical know-how.
Troubleshooting design issues during installation, testing, and commissioning.
Visiting sites and attending meetings to keep design intent aligned with real-world execution.
What you’ll bring
A degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor’s or Master’s).
5+ years of experience in electrical design, especially HV substations (up to 132kV).
Deep knowledge of UKPN standards, protection/control systems, and HV design.
Skilled in AutoCAD, Amtech, ETAP, or similar tools.
Proven leadership and mentoring chops.
Desirable
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards it.
BIM and 3D design experience.
Familiarity with UKPN substation projects or similar infrastructure.
Soft Skills
Strong leadership and decision-making.
Top-notch communication and people skills.
Full UK Driving Licence.
