Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled
GitHub Platform Engineer
to administer, optimize, and support GitHub Enterprise environments across a multi-instance, multi-product landscape. This role requires deep expertise in GitHub products, CI/CD pipelines, authentication standards, scripting, and cloud platform integrations. The ideal candidate will function as a subject matter expert, supporting global initiatives, driving improvements, and enabling frictionless development experiences for engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
GitHub Platform Administration & Engineering
- Administer and manage GitHub platforms and associated products, including GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot, and integrations.
- Lead and support global GitHub product implementations, integrations, redesigns, and migrations.
- Assist in migrating data from GitHub on-premises environments to GitHub Enterprise Managed User (EMU).
- Manage and troubleshoot GitHub cloud products, integrations, and advanced access needs.
Automation, Scripting & Process Optimization
- Develop scripts using JavaScript, Java/Spring Boot, or Python to automate workflows and operational tasks.
- Identify and implement improvements to product functionality, system architecture, and internal processes.
- Support CI/CD pipeline optimization and integration across tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or other DevOps platforms.
System Administration & Cloud Technologies
- Maintain and support applications running in Linux environments, including VMs, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Work with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), OpenShift, or similar.
- Collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot and optimize CI/CD pipelines and tooling.
Security, Authentication & APIs
- Work with authentication systems including Azure Active Directory, OAuth2, and OpenID Connect.
- Utilize and integrate REST APIs, including GitHub APIs, to enhance automation and tooling.
- Support AI/ML bot security or MCP server knowledge (preferred).
Support, Communication & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Proactively monitor and resolve support tickets related to GitHub platform and integrations.
- Provide documentation, training, and support to site administrators, engineering teams, and end users.
- Collaborate with global teams, occasionally outside normal business hours.
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Work with stakeholders across Ford to gather requirements, design solutions, and deliver high-quality tools.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with GitHub, including administration and GitHub Enterprise.
- Strong scripting skills in JavaScript, Java/Spring Boot, or Python.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar.
- Knowledge of REST APIs and GitHub API integrations.
- Experience supporting Linux-based systems, containers, Kubernetes, or cloud environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and process improvement mindset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with GCP, OpenShift, or similar cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Tekton, FOSSA, or related CI/CD tools.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Spanner, or other databases
