Duties

  • Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and manage appointment scheduling using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms
  • Collect and document patient intake information, including medical history and reason for visit, ensuring compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations
  • Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to assist clinicians in assessing patient health status
  • Prepare patients for eye examinations by performing preliminary tests, including refraction measurements and visual acuity assessments
  • Assist the ophthalmologist or optometrist during exams by maintaining aseptic technique and handling ophthalmic instruments with precision
  • Manage medical records accurately, including documentation of procedures, diagnoses, and billing codes using medical coding and billing practices
  • Support front desk operations by answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, processing payments, and managing retail sales of eyewear and accessories
  • Maintain a clean, organized clinic environment adhering to infection control standards and ensuring all equipment is sanitized appropriately

Skills

  • Strong understanding of patient care principles combined with excellent communication skills to create a positive patient experience
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and secure handling of sensitive information
  • Experience with intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and basic ophthalmic testing techniques
  • Familiarity with aseptic technique to maintain a sterile environment during clinical procedures
  • Prior optical experience or clinic experience in ophthalmology or optometry settings is highly desirable
  • Proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for documentation and scheduling
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to eye health, and medical coding/billing practices
  • Ability to multitask efficiently at the front desk while maintaining attention to detail in record keeping and sales transactions
  • Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills to manage inventory and process transactions confidently
  • A proactive attitude with a passion for healthcare service delivery in pediatrics or general eye care environments
