Public Works - Parks Maintenance
Non-Exempt
Minimum Pay: $24.13 per hour
Job Summary
This position is responsible for supervising assigned department and/or administrative functions.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Coordinates, supervises, and participates in the work of staff engaged in the landscaping projects; coordinates routine and special projects; supervises the work of community service workers as assigned.
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment, including tractors, blowers, mowers, etc. to perform park maintenance or landscaping tasks; cuts grass and blows leaves from parking lots, roadsides, and nature trails.
  • Monitors and patrol public areas, playgrounds, fishing docks, pavilions, nature trails, and restrooms; assists in keeping facilities clean and safe.
  • Monitors and patrols parks and trails to identify maintenance and repair needs; coordinates and assigns staff to ensure maintenance is completed in a timely manner.
  • Performs a variety of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and other maintenance and repair functions as needed.
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces park signage and sign posts.
  • Communicates with janitorial supply, septic cleaning, and other vendors to purchase supplies and arrange services needed.
  • Trains, assigns, directs, schedules, and supervises assigned personnel.
  • Performs related duties.

  • Skill in the operation of job-related vehicles and equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in the operation, repair, and maintenance of grounds equipment.
  • Skill in the supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Parks Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES
Guidelines include department and county policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related varied supervisory, administrative, and/or technical maintenance duties. The variety of tasks to be coordinated contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in assigned maintenance, administrative, and/or customer service operations. Successful performance contributes to the provision of quality services to the public.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county personnel, vendors, and the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to resolve problems, provide information, motivate persons, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and/or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over assigned personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years� experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver�s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
