PART-TIME MIDDLE SCHOOL LEARNING SPECIALIST

We seek a part-time learning specialist starting February or March 2026. At Seattle Girls' School*, we use an experiential, joy-filled, inquiry-based approach. We seek teachers who are collaborative, flexible, and love learning and doing alongside middle school girls and gender expansive students. Teachers work collaboratively to write original curriculum (no textbooks here) that is project-based and hands-on, and integrates anti-bias work into everything they do. This part-time learning specialist position hours/week) is an opportunity to support students and teachers in making the most of a transformative SGS experience.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build upon the existing academic culture of SGS to support teachers in providing innovative, motivating, and relevant learning experiences for middle school girls and gender expansive students.
- Engage students in differentiated and meaningful learning through culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Write and manage individualized learning plans that target specific curricular/learning needs and outline necessary classroom and testing accommodations.
- Interpret educational evaluations and conduct student observations to identify helpful strategies and accommodations.
- Act as case manager to all students who have a learning plan, providing one-on-one or small group support related to study skills, executive functioning, and personal empowerment.
- Lead goal setting meetings once a year with learning plan families.
- Oversee academic accommodations for students with learning plans in the classroom and on standardized tests.
- Provide ongoing consultation and referral for new testing and retesting, tutors, and other supports.
- Assume an active role in grade-level student support meetings and meet regularly with the Dean of Students and Assistant Head of School.
- Collaborate with outside service providers, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, tutors, therapists, and psychologists to support students.
- Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom accommodations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with divergent learning needs.
- Work with classroom teachers and other specialists to identify and support gifted students, providing appropriate academic challenges and enrichment opportunities.
- Teach a once-weekly class in the fall term to support all 7th grade students with study skills, executive functioning, and personal empowerment.
- Support the admissions process by attending Open Houses, meeting with prospective families, and reviewing applications for students with learning support needs.
- Beyond your curricular responsibilities, actively engage around the larger mission of SGS to develop students' leadership and their understanding of social justice.
- Model a growth mindset by learning alongside students and colleagues.
- Engage in continuous personal identity development work, specifically in regards to race and privilege, and support students in their own learning.
- Provide a safe and active environment that will benefit each SGS student.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- B.A./B.S. is required
- Master's Degree in Special Education or a related field preferred
- Classroom teaching experience in upper elementary and/or middle school grades preferred
- Experience with middle school-aged students
- Experience with student support for learning differences, especially related to reading, math, and attention/executive functioning
- Experience reading and analyzing educational testing evaluations
- A high level of cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of middle school-aged girls and gender nonconforming students
Compensation:
Salary and benefit package commensurate with experience. The annual salary range for our full-time faculty is $66,800-$88,500. SGS uses a salary scale that takes years of experience and degrees attained into
