The European Auto Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining European makes and models, including but not limited to BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, VW, Porsche, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo. This role requires advanced diagnostic capability, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, accurate repairs. The technician ensures vehicles meet manufacturer standards of performance, safety, and reliability.
Requirements:
Safety
- Wear ANSI Z87.1+ impact-rated safety glasses at all times.
- Use prescription safety glasses or approved safety eyewear if corrective lenses are needed.
- Wear safety footwear (slip-resistant, impact-rated).
- Use gloves appropriate to the task (chemical, cut-resistant, heat).
- Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety procedures.
- Use lockout/tagout when working on electrical systems or high-voltage components.
- Lift vehicles using certified lift points; inspect lift arms and safety locks before elevating a vehicle.
- Handle batteries, chemicals, coolants, and oils according to safety standards.
- Keep work areas clean and free of trip hazards, oil spills, and debris.
- Use proper ventilation when working with exhaust, fumes, solvents, or adhesives.
- Report any hazards, malfunctioning tools, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Inspect tools daily and report or tag out damaged equipment.
- Operate scan tools, lifts, alignment machines, and specialty equipment only if trained.
- Follow manufacturer instructions for airbag systems, high-voltage components, and ADAS systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Perform advanced diagnostics using OEM and aftermarket scan tools.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and drivability issues.
- Complete repairs for engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, cooling systems, emissions, and electronics.
- Conduct factory-level programming, coding, resets, and module updates.
- Perform pre-purchase inspections and scheduled maintenance services.
- Interpret and follow European manufacturer repair procedures.
- Work with high-voltage hybrid/EV components (if trained/certified).
- Use specialty tools and equipment specific to European vehicles.
- Maintain knowledge of manufacturer bulletins, recalls, and updates.
- Document diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and recommendations clearly and accurately.
- Perform quality-control checks to ensure repairs meet OEM standards.
- Communicate findings with service advisors and customers when needed.
- Uphold shop standards for cleanliness, organization, and workflow efficiency.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of professional automotive technician experience - European experience required
- ASE certifications (A1–A8) preferred; L1 or EV certifications a plus.
- OEM training (BMW STEP, Audi FastTrack, Mercedes ELITE, VW Academy, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional communication with customers and internal staff.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, and work in tight spaces.
- Bend, twist, kneel, climb, and stand for long periods.
