Job Summary
Summary:
Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data.
Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.
- Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
- Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
- Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
- Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.
Qualifications
We are seeking a full-time Research Technician I to join the Tumor Cartography Core (TCC) within the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, a dynamic, collaborative team at the forefront of spatial biology and translational cancer research. This role is ideal for individuals excited to work at the intersection of cutting-edge technology, discovery science, and clinical impact.
As part of the TCC, you will contribute to a vibrant research environment that powers the newly established Tumor Cartography Center. Our mission is to accelerate scientific discovery by providing researchers access to state-of-the-art imaging platforms, spatial transcriptomic technologies, multispectral and multiplex staining methods, and tumor microarray (TMA) construction. You'll gain hands-on experience with advanced experimental workflows while working alongside a talented, supportive team committed to innovation, mentorship, and improving patient outcomes.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required
Experience
Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment 1-2 years preferred
The principal wet lab duties include construction of Tumor MicroArrays (TMAs), tissue sectioning, and preparation of samples for cutting-edge spatial omics platforms.
Responsible for assisting with imaging of biological samples such as FFPE tissue sections, cytospun cells, cell invasion assays, and tumorspheres.
Responsibilities also include assisting senior lab members with procurement of general supplies as well as overall lab organization and safety compliance.
Duties include assisting with troubleshooting and communicating with vendors for our advanced platforms when needed. Additional responsibilities include implementation of individualized staining protocols for novel biomarkers. Contributions will also include assisting with hypothesis generation, experimental design, and data interpretation.
Prepares written reports on status of research, determination of technical procedures, sequence of operations, including graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions. Collaborates with supervisor in writing and editing material for publication and may appear as principal or secondary author on publications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.
