Mussel House & Sports Bar | Annapolis, MD

Position Overview

The General Manager is responsible for the overall success of an elevated mussel house and sports bar that blends high-quality seafood, craft beer program, craft beverages, and a vibrant game-day atmosphere. This role requires a dynamic leader who can seamlessly manage refined hospitality alongside high-volume sports bar operations. The General Manager will drive guest satisfaction, team performance, and financial results while upholding brand standards and community presence in the growing Annapolis market.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesGuest Experience & Atmosphere

  • Create a welcoming, energetic, and polished guest experience for both everyday dining and high-volume sporting events
  • Harness an eye for attention to detail that aligns with the Ownerships expectations.
  • Maintain elevated service standards while managing fast-paced game-day environments
  • Ensure consistent food quality, beverage execution, cleanliness, and presentation
  • Actively engage with guests, handle feedback and concerns, and build loyal repeat business

Leadership & Team Management

  • Recruit, hire, train, and retain a strong management team and hourly staff
  • Lead by example on the floor during peak service and major sporting events
  • Establish clear expectations for service, professionalism, and teamwork
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed
  • Promote a culture of accountability, hospitality, and enthusiasm

Operations & Service Execution

  • Oversee daily front-of-house, bar, and service operations in coordination with kitchen leadership
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and labor controls for both regular service and event-driven volume
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and alcohol service regulations
  • Maintain and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Oversee AV systems, TV programming, and game-day setup to ensure optimal viewing experience

Financial & Business Performance

  • Manage P&L performance, budgeting, forecasting, and cost controls
  • Monitor labor, food, and beverage costs while maximizing revenue
  • Analyze sales trends related to sports events, seasons, and promotions
  • Collaborate with ownership on pricing strategies, promotions, and special events

Beverage, Bar & Seafood Focus

  • Oversee bar operations including beer, craft cocktails, wine, and local/regional selections
  • Ensure proper handling and presentation of fresh seafood, particularly mussels and shellfish
  • Maintain vendor relationships and oversee inventory, ordering, and cost management
  • Drive beverage sales through programming, promotions, and staff training

Marketing, Events & Community Engagement

  • Lead game-day promotions, watch parties, and special events
  • Represent the restaurant positively within the Annapolis community
  • Support partnerships with local businesses and sports organizations
  • Work with ownership and marketing teams on social media and promotional initiatives

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of General Manager or senior restaurant leadership experience
  • Proven experience in high-volume sports bar and/or upscale casual dining
  • Strong financial management and P&L experience
  • Knowledge of seafood operations and bar management preferred
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and guest-service skills
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, event-driven environments
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and major sporting events
  • Maryland food safety and alcohol certifications (or ability to obtain)
