Our Traffic Engineering & Advanced Mobility (TEAM) Business Unit focuses on the planning, design, and operations of our surface transportation facilities to improve safety, accessibility, and mobility for all users. Our projects leverage advanced tools, real-time traffic data, and diverse technologies to deliver innovative solutions for a broad range of clients, including Municipalities, Counties, and State Departments of Transportation. We are seeking a highly motivated Transportation Engineer to grow our TEAM at a client-site in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

Responsibilities Include

  • Completes and coordinates the development reviews for traffic and highway transportation projects, for higher level approval, by way of public and/or private meetings, telephone discussions, and written correspondence
  • Provides direction to those involved regarding SHA requirements, recommendations and conflicts
  • Review and comment on the design of project entrances, street connections, additional lanes, grades, cross sections, sight distance evaluations, bicycle compatibility, sidewalk, complete streets, plats etc.
  • Make design change recommendations that resolve conflicts mentioned above which will result in project compatibility through discussion and approval by Regional Engineer and management
  • Utilizes working knowledge past and present of SHA projects and Area Developments, applications of engineering judgement, and in person representation
  • Maintains the disposition of projects within databases to provide accurate project information with detailed notes
  • Guides and directs, with supervisory input, the developer and the consultant engineer so they may gain approval of detailed construction plans, plats, special provisions, cost/quantities estimate, and formal documents associated with and required in the approval of the access permit contract
  • Prepare and oversee for approval various review submissions, pre-permit engineering plans and the completed access permit submissions (to include application, processing fees, performance surety ie; bond, letter of credit or cash reserve, inspection reimbursement costs, traffic signal fees, utility, clearance data, storm drainage design and management, traffic control data and other formal documents associated with the preparation and approval of the access permit
  • Assigns transmittal packages for review by other offices and prepares correspondence letters under the supervision, direction and coordination of the Regional Engineer and/or manager
  • Coordinates Reviews and incorporates comments into responses to the developer
  • Coordinates the hydrologic/hydraulic and traffic impact study (TIS) review elements of projects, prior to sending over to the developer or consultant engineer for review/approval. May require interaction with other state, county or local officials
  • Assists in the review and scoping of assigned projects, under supervision
  • Conducts field investigations of development sites. Determines access locations, number, type, design and extent of highway improvements needed to obtain safe and efficient access. Coordinates findings with developer and project engineers.
  • Coordinate with county agencies, developers and landowners to acquire donation or reservation of right-of-way needed for funded improvements
  • Reviews development and highway related project proposals to recommend action. Coordinates with SHA project managers to ensure proposed developer work and highway projects will be compatible
  • Coordinates with county agencies, developers and landowners on funded right of way needed for developer
  • Reviews development and highway related project proposals. Recommends actions to the project manager for approval
  • Facilitates agreements between land developers and SHA involving highway design projects (paving, storm water management ponds, sidewalks, etc.
  • Reviews excess right-of-way and road
