We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, Assitant Aquatics Director that will work with the Senior Aquatics Director to oversee all aquatics operations. This includes the management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development and financial development. Schedule will include evening and weekend hours.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature
- Support strategic direction/vision for operations of an indoor pool, aquatic programming, CPR/FA training.
- Supports staff recruitment efforts including branch specific onboarding for lifeguards and swim instructors
- Lead monthly inservices, lifeguard recertification classes and community first aid and CPR classes
- Supports development and delivery of quality aquatics programs including swim lessons and a diverse and inclusive water fitness schedule
- Manage and monitor lifeguard schedule and budget
- Maintain pool chemicals and equipment while identifying and reporting any needs for repair in a timely manner
- Maintains up to date and complete records and prepares reports regarding programs and operations as needed; ensures compliance with all state and county regulations
- Ensures excellent customer/member service and meet Association standards
- Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign
- Participates in branch leadership meetings and special event volunteer committees. Develop promotions that recruit and develop aquatic participation
- Execute systems that ensure safety across all aquatic endeavors; lead collaboratively to maintain systems that achieve sanitary conditions, safe environments, program excellence, and member service excellence
Support on-duty lifeguards with needed breaks and assistance with member needs and concerns

Participants will encounter staff and programs that will allow the development of human potential and build good health and promote positive self-esteem and safety. Behaviors of staff and volunteers will reflect the characteristics of welcoming, nurturing, genuine, determined, and hopeful.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Current Lifeguarding Certification, which includes First Aid, CPR professional level, and Emergency Oxygen Administration (YMCA Lifeguarding preferred)
- 2 years continuous experience in lifeguarding and instructing swim lessons in a group environment
- Experience working with children and adults
- Experience supervising and training adults
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Pool filtration and maintenance experience preferred
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification preferred
- YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred
- Supervising a staff team preferred
- Experience managing a budget preferred
- Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children. Monitors building, staff and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
- Must be able to remain alert.
- Tolerate heat and humidity for extended periods of time
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
- Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
