GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The Creative Designer leads VIA's visual identity and creative production across all channels. Oversees conception and design of print and digital materials that strengthen VIA's brand and enhance customer experience. This position provides strategic direction and hands-on expertise in digital design, animation, and user experience (UX) for web , mobile, social platforms, and customer service.

This position leads VIA's design vision by acting as an in-house graphic designer and providing creative direction to external creative contractors to deliver innovative, accessible, and user-focused content. The Creative Designer partners with internal departments to translate complex information into clear, visually compelling visual stories that support the agency's mission, ridership growth, and community awareness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Directs creative elements and strategy for VIA's external branding, marketing, and customer-facing materials across print, digital, and environmental media.

Leads design and development of interactive graphics, motion/animation, and multimedia assets that elevate VIA's brand and storytelling of all external creative efforts.

Guides visual standards, templates, and style guides to ensure brand consistency.

Manages project intake, priorities, schedules, and budgets for creative initiatives.

Reviews, edits, and approves creative work produced by internal staff and outside vendors.

Collaborates with cross-functional teams on marketing campaigns, public education, and customer information projects.

Monitors trends in design, animation, and UX to keep VIA's creative approach fresh and competitive.

Supports production of video and multimedia content, including concepting, storyboarding, and animation direction.

Coaches and evaluates staff; provides professional development and mentorship.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Marketing, Communications, or related field and at least five (5) years of progressive experience in multi-platform design, animation, production, and publishing, including a minimum of three (3) years supervising people and projects.

Equivalent experience may substitute for education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrate proficiency in design and editing software, including Adobe Photoshop and

Adobe CS, InDesign, and email marketing systems such as Constant Contact. Must also be familiar with web development tools and software such as HTML, WordPress and Flash.

Must be able to work in Mac systems and be familiar with Microsoft Windows-based computer system.

Extensive experience engaging audiences through marketing and promotional materials.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to work effectively independently, as well as in a team environment.

Ability to manage multiple, often competing projects and deadlines and effectively coordinate the work of others.

Strong organizational skills.

Must be able to maintain good work attendance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical ability required to be mobile, bend, stoop, stand, reach and lift objects weighing 5-25 pounds such as files, supplies, equipment and large heavy reference manuals and books.

WORK ENVIRONMENTS:

Works in normal office environment.

Work includes managing frequent deadlines and multiple priorities

Work may require evening and weekend work
