Provides diagnostic imaging services according to accepted standards and protocols and assures patient safety during procedures.
General Diagnostic Procedures
- Performs all mammography examinations following policies and procedures established by the department.
- Prepares and positions patients for mammograms.
- Provides care and communication to patients before, during and after the procedure.
- Uses all equipment properly and in a manner that minimizes hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
- Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of all patients and staff.
- Explains procedures and responds to questions appropriately.
- Ensures that all images are clear and of good diagnostic quality, adjusting equipment as necessary.
- Documents patient history, including any relevant information which might affect the interpretation of the mammogram.
- Maintain and cleans the mammography equipment with the appropriate solutions.
- Communicates any pertinent information with radiologists and other healthcare professionals as necessary.
- Maintains working knowledge of the PAC's System.
- Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
Special Diagnostic Testing
- Demonstrates competency in performing all procedures and use of the equipment for Mammography, as appropriate and assigned.
- Keeps dose as low as possible to achieve diagnostic exam.
Administrative
- Uses computer to access reports, medical history, prior imaging, etc.
- Follows protocols for releasing of images and obtaining prior imaging studies.
- Assists with administrative responsibilities of the department to include scheduling appointments, answering the phone, etc.
- Performs all quality controls procedures weekly in the absence of the QC technologist.
- Maintains licensing and continuing education credits.
- Able to teach/aid students and new staff.
- Graduate of a Radiology Technology training program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT)
- Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
- Certification in Mammography
- 0-1 year of experience
- Hospital experience preferred
REQUIRED LICENSE(S)
Radiographer NH (MIRT1060) OR Radiation Therapist NH (MIRT1057) OR Medical Imaging/Rad Ther - NH (MIRT1001)
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Radiologic Technologist - Mammography (RT - M) within 365 days
