Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care within a busy optometry clinic. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, utilizing clinical skills and medical knowledge to support eye health assessments and patient services. The Optometric Technician will assist with patient intake, perform pretesting on patients, work alongside our doctors on IPL and RF for Dry Eye Therapy, assist patients with Myopia control, and support the clinical team with various procedures, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintaining accurate medical records.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and assist with patient intake processes, including collecting medical history and verifying insurance information
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by performing preliminary tests and assessments using specialized equipment
- Assist optometrists during exams, including dilation procedures and visual acuity testing
- Teach insertion and removal of soft and hard contact lenses
- Operate EMR system (Officemate) medical record platforms to document patient information accurately
- Manage medical records, ensuring confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
- Support front desk operations, including scheduling appointments and managing patient flow
- Assist with medical billing and coding processes related to optometry services
- Provide exceptional patient care by demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and effective communication skills
Qualifications
- Prior experience in optical, ophthalmology, or medical office settings preferred
- Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to eye care
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Officemate or similar platforms
- Experience with HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and data entry
- Ability to perform pretest measurement accurately and follow aseptic techniques during procedures
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients and team members
- Clinic experience in pediatrics or general medicine is advantageous but not required
