Job Description

Job Title: Commodity Manager

Department: Materials

Reports To: Purchasing Manager

Shift/Schedule: Office Hours

SUMMARY OF POSITION 

As a Commodity Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient procurement and management of assigned commodities/product lines to meet company objectives and customer requirements. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you will contribute to the overall supply chain strategy by managing/developing supplier relationships, optimizing procurement processes, and driving continuous improvement. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will be expected to think proactively, act with a sense of urgency, and foster strong cross-functional collaboration to enhance operational performance and create value for the business by aggressively pursuing productivity opportunities.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Develop and manage strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery requirements are met.
  • Procurement Execution: Issue purchase orders, monitor delivery schedules, expedite or defer orders as needed, and support production planning.
  • Inventory Management: Utilize material scheduling techniques to optimize inventory levels while ensuring production continuity.
  • Cost and Value Optimization: Identify and implement strategic initiatives to drive cost savings and efficiency improvements for assigned commodities.
  • Supplier Development: Identify and onboard new or alternative suppliers to strengthen the supply base and mitigate risks.
  • Supplier Performance Monitoring: Track supplier key performance indicators (KPIs), address performance issues, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Production Support: Lead weekly production meetings to align material requirements with the production schedule and ensure timely availability of materials.
  • Compliance and Quality Support: Assist in supplier audits, manage corrective actions, and coordinate the return of non-conforming products.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Support material requirements for engineering projects, source prototypes, and provide accurate cost and lead-time estimates.
  • Risk Management: Monitor diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS), proactively addressing potential disruptions.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • A. or B.S. in Business, Supply Chain/Logistics, Engineering, or a related field.
