Job Overview
We are seeking compassionate individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professionals. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a crucial role in providing care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs.

POSITION DUTIES:

DSP will assist in providing self-help, skills training, and assist individuals with developmental and/or physical disability with their therapeutic treatments.

DSP will provide direct care to individuals receiving services at Favored Services Day Support and ensuring the health, safety and well-being of the individual.

DSP is responsible for protecting, engaging and documenting all activities done by the individuals served.

DSP is responsible with dividual outings and coordinate outings of individuals in the community.

DSP is responsible for maintaining current and accurate records of all services provided to the individual, including medication management.

DSP will communicate observations to the director for solutions.

DSP will document reports and reviews of behaviors of individuals daily.

DSP will transport or assist in transporting individuals to and from the community engagement, activities with Favored Services van or bus.

DSP is responsible for the individual under their care and the room

Any other duties as assigned by the agency in mission

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Activities such as changing, grooming, and dressing individual at Favored Services (Self-care practices)
    • Converse with individuals to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction
    • Serve meals and eat with individuals
    • Accompany individuals on shopping trips
    • redirect disruptive individuals to prevent injury to themselves and others, using prescribed methods
    • Observe and document behaviors, such as speech, feeding patterns, activities.
    • Document, report, and review the individuals daily progress, needs, medical issues, and behaviors
    • Transport or assist in transporting individuals to and from activities, shopping, and other outings.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent and Three (3) years' experience adult with developmental and/or physical disabilities preferred. Ability to recognize inappropriate or manipulative behavior in difficult or challenging situations. Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations. Ability to react to situations, i.e., rescue, preventing individual(s) from hurting themselves. Valid Virginia Driver's license.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $15.00 per hour
